✨ Forget an English Word Mid-Sentence? Try This!

ree

You’re mid-sentence, nailing your point, and then—

🧠 Poof. That one word disappears.

 😅 Sound familiar?

It comes up in nearly every session I coach—engineers, creatives, execs in very nice shoes. Native and non-native English professionals alike! And yes, it even happens to me. (I teach communication and still blank out 🫠)

So here’s what I tell my international professional clients—and now, you:

💡 What to Say When You Forget a Word

Start using these today to keep conversations smooth and stress-free:

 🟢 “What’s the word I’m thinking of? It’s like when…” [quick description]

🟢 “Oof, blanked—let me say it a different way.”

🟢 “One sec—it’ll come back. Let me rephrase.”

Don’t worry! These aren’t slip-ups. They’re leadership moves. ⚡

They show presence, adaptability, and the desire to make your message clear—not perfect.

And honestly? People love helping if you give them the green light. Inviting someone into your moment makes the exchange more human and collaborative.

✨ Ana Truth Time:

I always forget “apprehensive” (I cue it with “hesitant” and pray someone jumps in 😂) And “congruent”? I end up pantomiming two lines like a mime on a mission. The kicker? They’re my two favorite words—and I still forget them.

Here’s the thing: even the most fluent speakers blank. Even you. Even me. Unless you’re secretly ChatGPT in human form, you don’t have to remember every word.

Real communication isn’t about memorizing 70,000 words. It’s about knowing how to keep going—gracefully, humorously, and together.
